As summer draws to a close, two unanticipated seasons are…
Fort Wayne, Ind. (Profitable.com) A young entrepreneur from Fort Wayne, IN has founded an Internet-based company to match students needing tutoring with available tutors in their subject and geographical area. Kyle King, an MBA student at Indiana University, said he started TutorsElite.com, LLC because he saw a need for students and their parents to be able to find appropriate tutors from the convenience of their home “without feeling the stigma often associated with going to a tutoring center.”
King came up with the idea for his online tutoring referral service when he was studying for the LSAT examination, a test students take to qualify for entry into law school. He wanted to hire a tutor to help him study for the LSAT and was unable to find one. “I thought to myself, ‘Why not develop a Web-based service so students like me would have a safe and secure way of searching for a tutor from the privacy of their own home and on their own time’?” There is no charge for students to find a tutor through his Web site, www.tutorselite.com, which currently has more than 3,000 registered tutors from across the United States.
King believes he is providing a valuable community service, not only to students and their parents, but also to qualified teachers who want to earn some extra money by tutoring students in their area of expertise. Tutors who register with his company are eligible for four referrals through the site at no charge. After the first four referrals have been made, tutors can elect to continue being a part of TutorsElite.com by paying a monthly or yearly service fee. “It provides tutors with a way to have a part-time job, set their own price and keep what they earn,” he said. TutorsElite.com does not get involved in the payment transaction between students and tutors, giving them the flexibility to negotiate their own terms.
In addition to the tutoring referral system, TutorsElite.com also offers a blog for discussing homework tips and education-related stories, and a forum where students can buy and sell used textbooks and participate in interactive discussions.
A Fort Wayne native, King is a graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in communications and Indiana University with a master’s degree in public administration and policy. He currently is enrolled in the accelerated MBA program at Indiana University and is considering enrolling in law school, having already been accepted into various universities’ law programs.
