DRESDEN, Germany (Profitable.com) Cognitec Systems today announced that the initial results of the Multiple Biometric Evaluation (MBE), an independent evaluation of face recognition and iris recognition technologies conducted by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) published last week, again demonstrated the outstanding performance of the Company’s well-known and proven face recognition technology.
The MBE is generally considered the successor independent evaluation platform to the Face Recognition Vendor Tests 2002 and 2006, which were earlier independent biometric evaluations performed by NIST and on which Cognitec’s technology also participated and exhibited exceptional operational performance. The purpose of this initial test stage of MBE, known as MBE-STILL, was to measure and compare the recognition performance of face recognition algorithms provided by market-leading commercial companies and certain research centers on still images.
While these early MBE-STILL test results again demonstrated the excellent operational performance of Cognitec’s algorithms across all test protocols, the performance of the Company’s algorithms particularly excelled in the more challenging tests reflective of common real-world scenarios — such as searches of very large photo databases of government-issued passport or drivers’ license. Specifically, in the so-called open-set identification test, considered the most relevant test protocol as it encompassed algorithm performance in challenging, large database applications, Cognitec’s algorithm exhibited the best performance at the lowest false alarm levels. This open-set test performance demonstrates the operational results likely to occur in a typical, real-world operational setting that comprises multi-million image galleries and very limited resources available for visual inspection.
“We are very satisfied with the results achieved by our Company’s technology in MBE-STILL,” commented Alfredo Herrera, Cognitec’s Managing Director. “These results again validate our robust technology and leadership position within the face recognition market, as well as demonstrate our resolve to deliver superior products through world-class R&D capabilities. Moreover, these test results also demonstrate our keen client focus by providing innovative and best-in-class face recognition solutions to meet the evolving needs and operational challenges affecting our growing customer base.”
