Skimpy Mixers Founders Skimp On Calories, Not On Success

Explosive growth is never guaranteed, but it’s always welcome when it comes to a new start up company. Skimpy Mixers, a company based in Carrollton, GA, managed to secure distribution deals with national retailers like Walmart and H-E-B within the first year of production. Of course, the ideas behind the company were in development for more than just one year. The three co-founders were inspired to create a new line of low sugar and low calorie drink mixer blends after a pool party where they realized their favorite drinks featured some hefty calorie counts.

Part of the reason the company managed such quick growth was the timing. Demand for low calorie alternatives for practically everything is growing right now. Since even wine and beer add a lot of calories to a person’s daily intake, it’s the perfect time for expanding the mixer options. The team has developed six flavors so far, with plans for more in the future. One of the three co-founders is a registered dietitian to make sure the blends don’t sacrifice health for flavor and calorie control. Each blend is based around fruit juice and Splenda as a sweetener to avoid the issues linked to Aspartame and similar sugar replacements.
