Bohemia, NY  (Profitable.com)  On May 25, CEO of Empire Digital Products, Scott Brodsky, comments on a recent The Business Journals article that discusses startup activity in the United States reaching a 13-year high.

According to BizJournals.com, “nearly 13 percent of Americans were starting or running new businesses in 2012, the highest rate of entrepreneurial activity in the United States since at least 1999.” These statistics were provided by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor which is an annual report published by Babson College and Baruch College.

Further statistics show that Americans starting their own businesses are doing so because they want to not because it is a last resort. According to the report, “three out of four Americans starting a business are doing so because they see an opportunity, not because they can’t find a job and are going out on their own out of necessity.” Also, “more than 43 percent of Americans think there are good opportunities for entrepreneurs.” This result is the highest rate for that question in the survey’s 13-year history.

The men and women starting these businesses also have high hopes for the entrepreneurial ventures. According to the report, “37 percent of U.S. entrepreneurs expect to have more than five employees in the next five years.”
