Domain.com Consistent on its Opposition to Proposed SOPA Legislation

Vancouver, WA  (Profitable.com)  Domain.com, a leading domain registrar and web hosting provider with over five million domains under group management, is unwavering in its opposition to SOPA’s infringement of First Amendment rights. Domain.com firmly opposes the legislation, and invites like-minded domain owners to join them by transferring away from companies that have shown support for SOPA.

“While Domain.com respects the rights of intellectual property owners, the SOPA legislation is troubling in its restraint on free speech under the First Amendment. The uncertainty it would create for website owners and the resulting chilling effect on the tech industry is a serious issue the Internet community should not take lightly,” said David Andrews, Marketing Director for Domain.com.

The SOPA legislation has been hotly debated in the Internet community, with leading providers such as Google, iPage, Twitter, Facebook, and AOL aligned with Domain.com against it. Domain provider GoDaddy initially supported the bill, but later reconsidered its position, based on concerns raised by the Internet community. News of SOPA continues to blow up over social media with coverage from sites like Reddit, Gizmodo, TechCrunch, Ars Technica, and more.

Cape Girardeau, MO  (Profitable.com)  The tablet industry, projected to be a $70Billion market in 2014, is growing at a rapid rate.  The rate of growth is over $40Million per day, as consumers have quickly adopted top devices from Apple, Amazon, Samsung, Sony and other manufacturers.  XF.com Investments has decided to put Tablets.com up for offers, due to the tremendous opportunities that lie ahead in this market.

The rolling odometer on the Tablets.com website shows just how rapidly this industry is growing.  RBC Capital Markets expects the tablet market to reach 185 million units sold in calendar 2014, up 83 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 17 million units in calendar 2010. XF.com Investments, based in Missouri, has not set an asking price for the asset.

“We are going to let the market determine the final sales price,” said Aron Meystedt with XF.com Investments.  ”We feel the size and growth of this industry will drive the final sales price of Tablets.com up, however, we haven’t set a target price yet,” he added.  ”Once a bid comes across that we feel is fair for this opportunity, we will accept it and move forward.”

Recent sales have shown the true value of a category leading domain name.  Toys.com, Clothes.com, Sex.com (and many unreported sales) have traded hands for 7 and 8 figure sums.  Recently, Citrix assigned an $18Million value to their Cloud.com domain name, which it acquired as part of an overall $200Million Cloud.com business purchase earlier this year.  ”This further illustrates the value of a top .com in a growing tech category,” Aron added.  Additionally, the tablet industry is producing several major investments and buyouts, including this week’s agreement for Rakuten to pay $315Million for tablet creator Kobo.

Meystedt adds, “XF.com Investments feels this is a tremendous opportunity for a company or investment group to enter a fast growing market with the top domain name to help propel their business forward.”  Tablets.com enables a company to:
Convey market dominance.
Increase traffic to brand content.
Receive top search engine placements.
Own the category defining domain asset for this industry – projected to be $70Billion in 2014.

San Francisco, CA  (Profitable.com)  Although a few select shoppers may already have their holiday purchases out of the way, the biggest shopping season of the year is set to begin next week. Black Friday typically marks the shotgun start of holiday gift hunting, but retailers have already begun sharing deals and discounts, and many brick-and-mortar shops plan to open at midnight or in the wee hours to allow shoppers a head start. According to the recent National Retail Federation’s 2011 Holiday Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, conducted by BIGresearch, consumers are planning to spend $704.18 on holiday gifts and seasonal items this year, a bit down from last year but still significant spending. Overall, the survey projects holiday sales will go up 2.8 percent from last year, coming in at $465.6 billion for the months of November and December combined.

Knowing the tremendous expense of holiday shopping, CouponSnapshot.com is working hard to secure and share as many online coupon codes and discounts as possible for popular online shops.  The site is committed to helping shoppers save money on just about any kind of online purchase, including dollars-off, percent-off, and even free shipping. CouponSnapshot recently released a series of themed deals and coupon codes featuring Thanksgiving deals, Black Friday blowouts, and Cyber Monday sales. Bargain hunters need only visit the money-saving website to take advantage of these great offers that are available to the public completely free of charge.

We have made it our goal to help our members and site visitors save money on just about any purchase they make for the holidays, whether it’s their holiday photo cards, gifts for their children, or free shipping on that item that’s impossible to find in local stores.”

Through its recent survey, the National Retail Federation also predicts that average consumers are also looking to score deals on some non-gift items for themselves and close family members. The anticipated spend per consumer is roughly $130.43 during the holiday season, with a focus on sale and discounted apparel, electronics, and home goods, to name a few. Personal spending can also benefit from money-saving online deals, especially when looking for the coupon codes becomes a habit before every purchase.

Online shoppers should check out CouponSnapshot’s website for the latest deals and special offers to kick off the holiday season. A team of dedicated deal hunters works around the clock to find more exciting and exclusive deals, with new offers popping up on the site daily.

Milwaukee, WI  (Profitable.com)  Retailers are threatening to make Thanksgiving a shopping holiday with earlier start times for their Black Friday sales this year. Shoppers are resisting and more than ever will be going online to do their Black Friday shopping. GottaDeal.com, having covered Black Friday online since 2003, offers tips to their visitors for getting the most deals when shopping online this week.

“More Black Friday deals than ever will be available online this year, even the most popular doorbuster specials,” says Brad Olson, Owner of GottaDeal.com. “We’re telling our visitors that if they don’t want to shop in stores all night long, they can get the exact same deals from the comfort of their home.”

GottaDeal.com acquires leaked copies of Black Friday ads from major retailers such as Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Toys R Us and others. “The extra time allows our visitors to research products, compare prices, and come up with a plan of attack for the big day, whether they are shopping online or in stores,” says Mr. Olson.

The site offers a comprehensive “Online Black Friday Tracker” which provides a schedule of when the online Black Friday sales start for each retailer, as well as a listing of sale items that can be ordered online at any given moment. There are already several Black Friday specials that can be ordered online at the sale price or less.

In addition to this tracker, the site features a dedicated online Black Friday shopping message board where visitors can discuss the sales, ask questions of the experts on the site and post what deals they are finding. “Our message boards will be very busy towards the end of the week. Our members will be helping each other get the best deals possible,” says Mr. Olson.

In addition to using the tools available on the site, GottaDeal.com offers additional tips:

“Prepare your online retailer accounts – This can be done at any time between now and the start of the sale, although it’s better to do it as soon as possible. Go to each web site for stores you plan to shop at this week and make sure your shipping and billing addresses are up to date. Also make sure your credit card information is saved to your account.”

“Adding items to your cart in advance – In many cases, you are able to add Black Friday sale items to your shopping cart (make sure you are logged in so they are tied to your account) and once the sale has started, you can refresh your cart and the sale prices should change. This can be a real time saver when you need to get your order placed before items sell out.”

“Be aware of free shipping offers – One of the best parts of online Black Friday shopping (aside from not having to deal with the chaos in stores) is getting your items shipped for free. Each retailer has a different shipping policy – some, such as Best Buy offer free shipping on absolutely everything. For other stores, there is usually an order total threshold that you must reach to get free shipping. ”

GottaDeal.com is a year-round online deals site dedicated to saving visitors money in all aspects of their daily lives. It features hundreds of online deals posted each week, an updated listing on online coupons and a large community message board. Every autumn, the site opens their Black Friday web site dedicated to covering Black Friday sales and holiday shopping trends.

About Mission: Impossible

This holiday season, two-time Academy Award®-winner Brad Bird directs, with producers Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams, the action-packed spy adventure Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Blamed for the terrorist bombing of the Kremlin, IMF operative Ethan Hunt is disavowed along with the rest of the agency when the President initiates “Ghost Protocol.”  Left without any resources or backup, Ethan must find a way to clear his agency’s name and prevent another attack. To complicate matters further, Ethan is forced to embark on this mission with a team of fellow IMF fugitives whose personal motives he does not fully know.

Tom Cruise returns in the starring role as Ethan Hunt and is joined by an international cast that includes Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist, Vladimir Mashkov, Josh Holloway, Anil Kapoor and Lea Seydoux. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is directed by Brad Bird, in his live action film debut, and written by Josh Appelbaum & Andre Nemec. Cruise, who produces the Mission: Impossible films, is joined by producers J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk. The film will be co-financed by Skydance Productions. Jeffrey Chernov, David Ellison, Paul Schwake and Dana Goldberg are the executive producers.

San Jose, CA  (Profitable.com)  With more than 250 million Android handsets in use around the world, the platform has established its dominance in the smartphone marketplace. Yet developers of the over 300,000 apps in the Android app market still face significant hurdles trying to make money from their Android creations. To help solve this problem for Android developers, PaymentOne Corporation® (www.paymentone.com), a global leader in mobile payments, today announced the availability of its PayOne Mobile SDK with Android One Click API, the easiest way for developers to monetize premium and freemium Android apps.

“The toughest challenge any developer faces is how to make money from their apps,” said Brad Singer, executive vice president of PaymentOne. “Freemium is a great business model to engage consumers, and we enable developers to remove all friction at the point of purchase while maintaining a highly secure transaction. In a world where every connected device is ‘commerce ready,’ PaymentOne’s SDKs continue to optimize the payment process for the specific device, platform, media and user experience.”

By adding the simple Android One Click API from the PayOne Mobile SDK in their code, Android developers can begin making money from app downloads and in-app purchases made over the PaymentOne network, spanning more than 70 countries and 3.5 billion consumers. PaymentOne pioneered direct carrier billing and no-credit-card-required payments, and has been innovating simple user experiences that deliver secure “fraud-proof” transactions for more than a decade.

PaymentOne has already processed in excess of $5 billion direct to carrier billings with micro transactions typical of in-app purchases. The company, which has received an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau for its customer support, also features the fastest merchant payout rate in the industry.

Designed for minimal disruption, the PayOne Mobile SDK is the ideal payments platform for mobile applications. The SDK’s Android One Click API enables the easiest possible in-app payment method:

  • Consumer clicks a “get more <item>” button which triggers the payment process
  • Through the One Click API, the app automatically identifies the mobile phone number
  • A text message containing a validation code is then sent to the phone, and the app automatically pulls the code from the message
  • The purchase then appears on the customer’s bill

By eliminating the need for users to enter long strings of text to provide their name, number, billing address, credit card information and PIN into the 2-inch screen, PaymentOne keeps the user in the app and eliminates room for error and the frustration of a separate multi-step checkout process.

King of Trivia, an Android game developed by Silmaril.in (www.silmaril.in), leverages the PayOne Mobile SDK to offer mobile payments through PaymentOne to players of its multi-faceted social trivia game.

“We didn’t want King of Trivia players to be hassled with entering their personal credit card information while they are engaged in-game,” said Ashok Varma, Silmaril.in founder and CEO. “The PaymentOne Android payment process is truly a one click experience. Users don’t have to enter their phone number or even a PIN code; the app does it all. Using mobile payments powered by PaymentOne also expands our market globally, and allows our audience of gamers that make in-app purchases to include non-credit card users and those who just aren’t comfortable sharing their private information.”

The PayOne Mobile SDK and Android One Click API are free for developers to use. A transaction fee based on a percentage of each transaction is assessed to merchants. To start using the PayOne Mobile SDK and Android One Click API for your mobile app, contact developer@paymentone.com to set-up your developer account.

Arlington, VA  (Profitable.com)  One third of consumers plan on starting their holiday shopping during the long weekend after Thanksgiving according to a survey commissioned by the Retail Industry Leaders Association. One out of four intend to get started on Black Friday.

The relatively new shopping phenomenon of “Cyber Monday” has quickly become a lure for holiday bargain hunters as well. Twenty one percent of consumers say they plan on staying home and searching online for shopping deals on the Monday after Thanksgiving.

“The growth of online sales has made Cyber Monday and other online holiday shopping trends equally as important to retailers as Black Friday. Unlike a decade ago, a successful holiday season now means success in the store and online,” said Retail Industry Leaders Association president Sandy Kennedy.

Nearly a fifth of those surveyed—19 percent—said they plan on doing the majority of their holiday shopping online. As this segment of retailing grows, so too does the need for Congress to level the playing field by closing the online sales tax loophole.

“Both brick and mortar stores and online retailers will compete for holiday shopping dollars, but the loophole that allows e-tailers to avoid collecting sales tax at the point of purchase means that competition is not on a level playing field,” said Kennedy. “Government special treatment for online-only retailers like Amazon and Overstock means a perceived price advantage of up to ten percent against those retailers that are required to collect sales tax.”

Legislation recently introduced in the United States Senate would allow states to require online sellers like Amazon and Overstock to begin collecting and remitting state sales tax.

“Retailers are hopeful this will be the last holiday season that the heavy hand of government puts Main Street retailers at a disadvantage,” said Kennedy.

Consumers agree.

Sixty one percent of consumers surveyed support Congress passing legislation that would allow states to require online-only retailers to collect state sales tax just like storefronts in the community. Not surprisingly, three quarters of those surveyed had no idea that when a sales tax is not collected at the point of purchase on sites like Amazon.com, its still owed by the consumer.

“Congress can take the burden off consumers and level the playing field for retailers by passing e-fairness legislation this holiday season. In a true free market, regardless of whether a sale happens in a store or online, the state sales tax collected should be the same,” concluded Kennedy.

Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) is a trade association of the largest and most successful companies in the retail industry. Its member companies include more than 200 retailers, product manufacturers, and service suppliers, which together account for more than $1.5 trillion in annual sales. RILA members operate more than 100,000 stores, manufacturing facilities and distribution centers, have facilities in all 50 states, and provide millions of jobs domestically and worldwide.

Black Friday Deals Starting Early at Amazon

Black Friday Deals Starting Early at Amazon

It’s coming.  Black Friday.  The largest shopping day on the planet is right around the corner, and Amazon is kicking the savings off for an entire week starting November 21st.  Don’t bother with all of the long lines and fights at the local department and electronics store. Stay home and get even better savings with your home computer, smart phone or tablet computer.

Shoppers will still have to be really quick to grab some of the best Black Friday deals on the planet when Amazon starts the holiday shopping season with Black Friday Deals Week. Many traditional brick and mortar stores are only giving holiday shoppers one day of great prices and deals, but Amazon is rewarding its customers with an entire week of insane deals. Now holiday shoppers have Black Monday, Black Tuesday and so on all the way up until Friday. Amazon starts the savings before anyone else.

Black Friday Deals Week starts on Monday November 21st, and it ends on the big shopping day, Black Friday.  While other shoppers are battling it out in the holiday shopping trenches and fighting over the last items on the shelves, Amazon shoppers will be able to keep their feet warm and shop with a nice cup of coffee on their nightstand.

The deals will happen every few minutes, and they sometimes sell out very quickly. Not only are these sales extremely limited, but they are time sensitive as well. Online shoppers have to be quick to get the best deals.

What can holiday shoppers expect?  They can expect plenty of parking spaces, no long lines, shopping from the comfort of bed and a huge list of savings that rivals most brick and mortar stores.

Bloomfield Hills, MI  (Profitable.com)  That’s Biz, a leading online restaurant marketing firm, introduced their Facebook Like Us Love Us application for restaurant fan pages just thirty days ago and has already hit 2000 monthly active users. Designed exclusively for restaurants, Like Us Love Us is the only solution that puts the information restaurant customers want to know on one tab.

“We use the Like Us Love Us application on several of our resort pages,” said Loren Gray Director of eCommerce for Ocean Properties. “We have looked at a lot of tools and Like Us Love Us is unique in its ability to limit offers and track customer usage. Their practical use of QR codes allows us to redeem promotions with simply a smartphone at our resort restaurants.”

The Facebook Like Us Love Us application is the result of That’s Biz developers creating Facebook applications for restaurants over the past three years and observing what works with the customer. In addition, this past summer That’s Biz completed a survey of thousands of restaurant customers and asked them why they visit and like a restaurant fan page.

“We also like how we can give our customers access to our website information right from Facebook,” Gray continues. “Everything on one tab makes it more convenient for our customers and gets them to visit our page more often.”

That’s Biz offers two versions of Like Us Love Us. Restaurant owners are in full control over the number, level, and redemption of promotions in both versions. They decide whether they need to promote more likes for their page and whether the offers should be restricted. The enhanced version of Like Us Love Us leverages a restaurants website and makes the information one click away from their Facebook page.

Dave Gonynor CEO of That’s Biz concludes, “We know customers check the Like us Love Us tab often because according to Facebook Insights data customers visit the Like Us Love Us tab as much as they do the wall.”

Restaurant owners can watch the attached short video and see how it works. They can also visit the That’s Biz Facebook page which has links to restaurant pages across the country that are using the application.

That’s Biz has a special Introductory Offer that runs through December of 2011. Check it out by clicking on Like Us Love Us for Facebook.

Madrid, Spain  (Profitable.com)  AppTones, The Sound of Messages has launched version 1.0.5 of their social networking iPhone app, an upgrade based on user feedback that features enhanced chat functionality and a more intuitive user experience.

“We listened to our users and rolled out this new version that makes the messaging process a lot simpler,” says Gabriel Marro, AppTones Chief Architect. “For example, we have a chat function now, where you can select your sound and icon directly from the chat page.”

Users find AppTones to be an exciting substitute for traditional text messaging – it is the only social networking iPhone app to send and receive iMedia Messages. Message packs include pre-recorded sounds and icons and pre-written lines of text that can be combined to send humorous or dramatic messages at a single touch. Users can also write their own text, combining them with sounds and icons or not as they choose. With the new chat functionality, all the features are available on one page, which also shows your previous conversations with that contact. In this new format, composition, sound selection and pairing are simple.

“With AppTones, you can say ‘I love you’, ‘happy birthday’, ‘good luck’, and much more in a unique and unexpected way that is sure to grab someone’s attention,” Wolfgang Haselwander, AppTones Content Guru, said.

Another highlight – because AppTones works through the phone’s browser, users can send and receive unlimited texts, even internationally, for free. And sharing with friends is easy; AppTones automatically connects users with other AppTones users in their contact list, and makes it simple to invite friends to join them.

“We are really excited about this new version,” explains Wolfgang Haselwander, “because it makes AppTones even easier to use, and even more fun.”

Version 1.0.5 is free for a limited time, but will soon be priced at $1.99. Download directly to your iPhone from the App Store, or online at iTunes. For more details, visit the AppTones website at http://apptones.net.

About AppTones: Based in Madrid, Spain, AppTones, S.L is a new social networking app for iPad and iPhone that allows users to send free text messages that combine custom or pre-written text with surprising sounds and colorful icons.

San Diego, CA  (Profitable.com)  As the sun sets on the old Analytics interface, version v5 is coming closer to reaching fruition. While the beta version has already been available for users to try out, Google says in a matter of weeks the new version will be activated in all user accounts. You will still be able to switch back to the old version while you get your feet wet with the new interface, but only until January 2012. After January, version v5 will be fully integrated and the old version will be gone. With all the cool new features on the v5 interface, however, we don’t see any need to switch back. Here are a few of our favorite new features:

Visitor Flow

Visitor flow provides a great visual for how visitors navigate your pages and where they drop off. In the drop down bar, you can choose what flow chart you want to see, whether it be direct traffic, referral traffic or even mobile traffic. This feature also lists the numbers of visitors to each pages, how many go on to another page and how many drop off.

Real Time Tracking

Real Time Tracking provides a visual breakdown of real time visitors to your website. You are able to see the number of visitors fluctuate as they enter and exit your website each second. You are also able to see where in the world these visitors are coming from on a map, how many pages they have visited and the amount of time they have spent on the website.

Mobile Tracking

With mobile search becoming more prominent, Analytics v5 has added the capability to track mobile devices, as well as iPods and iPads. The Analytics team was even nice enough to provide images for each mobile device, just in case you forget what an iPhone looks like.

Multi-Channel Funnels and Goals Funnels

The multi-channel funnels give you a visual breakdown of what traffic sources preceded a conversion. This is a useful tool which can reveal what is more influential in yielding conversions. Under the ‘Conversions’ tab, you can find funnel visualization and goal flow, which are also unique visual tools which can help track conversions.

Key Differences Between the New and Old Versions

Even with the addition of all these new features, many of the key features of the old Analytics version have been preserved. The overall layout and menu bar have changed slightly, since Google has done away with the ‘Dashboard’, ‘Intelligence’ and ‘Goals’ tabs from the old interface and added the ‘Advertising’ and ‘Conversions’ tabs on the new menu.

New tabs have been added along the top, where ‘Home’ will take you to your dashboard and ‘Standard Reporting’ will take you to the familiar reports. ‘Custom Reporting’ allows the option to create your own reports based on customized factors.

In addition to the new features, some of key features from the older version have been switched around. For instance, the ‘Keywords’ tab, which used to be under ‘Traffic Sources’ in the older version is no longer there. Instead, you can find keyword tracking by going to Traffic Sources > Overview and your keywords are there on the right hand side.

Even with the new features and alterations to the layout, the new Analytics platform is straight-forward and easily understood. The Analytics team did a great job of providing an enhanced version of the Analytics we love, creating a visual approach to the variables that matter most, like conversions and site navigability. We sure enjoyed experimenting with all the new features on v5 and hope you will too. If you have any questions regarding the changes, or how to use a new feature, contact your SEO Agency.

Salt Lake City, UT  (Profitable.com)  It seems counterintuitive, but when it comes to employee blogs, sometimes the best posts contain moderate criticism of corporate policy, service or even products, says a new study from the University of Utah.

That is the surprising conclusion of a paper co-authored by Rohit Aggarwal, assistant professor of Information Systems at the university’s David Eccles School of Business. He notes that while some companies have reprimanded or even fired employees over “negative” posts, others have adopted policies tolerating or even encouraging criticism.

In “Blog, Blogger, and the Firm: Can Negative Posts by Employees Lead to Positive Outcomes?” which has been accepted for a forthcoming edition of the Information Research Journal (http://isr.journal.informs.org), Aggarwal contends that “our analysis suggests that negative posts act as a catalyst and can exponentially increase the readership of employee blogs.”

Visitors to corporate/employee blogs do not expect to see anything but positive commentary on company products and services. Critical commentary is seen as reflecting integrity of employees and honesty and openness from the company about their products or services.

“There is some merit in allowing negative posts” by company blogging policy-setters, suggest Aggarwal and coauthors Ram Gopal and Ramesh Sankaranarayanan of the University of Connecticut and Param Vir Singh of Carnegie Mellon University. “Permitting a few negative posts to increase readership should be a good strategy.”

Aggarwal and his colleagues also found that while a few negative posts served to season perceived legitimacy of corporate/employee blogs, too many negative blogs can reverse that initial, favorable reaction from readers. In other words, all things in moderation – including online criticism.

“We found that the optimal percentage for negative posts is about 15 percent to 20 percent,” Aggarwal says. “Beyond that, you may get more readership but there also is more negative impact on the company in terms of reputation and possibly sales.”

So, what does the research suggest for executives in the process of drafting or re-writing their policies on blog content? In a word: vigilance.

“We are not advocating, for instance, that a firm should actively encourage its employees to post negative comments on their blogs. Firms may not choose to restrict certain types of negative posts, which is different from actually encouraging negative posts,” the paper states.

That said, Aggarwal adds that his research suggests that companies should be more open toward “allowing employees more freedom to write and freedom to express” even as they “track blogs to see what the ratio of negative posts is to positive ones.”

A high negative-to-positive blog post ratio can also serve as a canary in a coal mine, allowing a company to proactively react to brewing discontent among employees. “If the (negative) ratio is too high, they can talk with those employees about their concerns. But while they should monitor those blogs, they should not stifle all criticism.”

You can read Aggarwal’s paper in full by visiting http://bit.ly/empblogs.

Denver, CO  (Profitable.com)  ShopAtHome.com, the largest free coupons and cash back site on the web, today released its 2011 Black Friday/Cyber Monday Savings Guide containing exclusive survey data on how to save the most cash this holiday season. Since Americans are more apt than ever to use coupons and search for the best deals this year, ShopAtHome.com recently surveyed more than 1,000 consumers to determine trends in holiday shopping and savings. The survey results as well as ShopAtHome.com’s predictions about this season’s shopping trends and savings tips that will help Americans make the most of their holiday budgets are included in its 2011 Black Friday/Cyber Monday Savings Guide. To view the entire report and trend graphics, please visit http://www.shopathome.com/press-releases/2011-savings-guide.aspx.

“Today, saving money on purchases by using coupons, cash back and other methods is just the cool thing to do,” said Marc Braunstein, founder and president of ShopAtHome.com, “and this is best shown by how traffic to our web site has more than doubled this past year.  We collected survey data from our very savvy shoppers as to the best ways to save this holiday season, and then combined these findings with data from our top retailers to form our 2011 Black Friday/Cyber Monday Savings Guide.  Bottom line, there are secrets to saving, and our Guide does a great job of highlighting some key savings tips.”

Highlights from the 2011 Black Friday/Cyber Monday Savings Guide include:

ShopAtHome.com’s predictions for the 2011 holiday shopping season:

  1. Don’t wait until Black Friday to get started! We expect online retailers will leak their Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals earlier than ever this year. So, while the rest of the world is waiting for late November to get started, savvy shoppers will be online, placing their orders for the best deals to be had.
  2. Expect to see a lot of “exclusive” deals released through social networks. Retailers want to thank their fans and followers for their loyalty so we expect those “thank yous” to come in the form of exclusive access to holiday deals shared via Facebook, Twitter and Google+.
  3. Cash back shopping will be more popular than ever. Coupon and Cash Back sites like ShopAtHome.com will experience significantly more traffic this season as consumers seek to save money in every way possible. ShopAtHome.com has set up a Black Friday Deals page and a Cyber Monday Deals page on its site to share all of the coupons and cash back deals available at popular retailers on these busy shopping days.

Black Friday/Cyber Monday Survey Highlights:

ShopAtHome.com recently surveyed more than 1,000 of its members to gather feedback about their holiday shopping plans. A few of the results include:

  • 80% of consumers plan to shop on Black Friday
  • 58% of consumers plan to do some online shopping on Black Friday
    • 21% say they will exclusively shop online on Black Friday while 37% plan to do a combination of in-store and online shopping
  • 72% of consumers plan to shop on Cyber Monday
  • 48% of consumers expect to save at least $100 on their holiday shopping this year by using coupons and earning cash back online
  • 59% of shoppers say they will only shop online where they can get free shipping

ShopAtHome.com’s tips to save big on holiday shopping:

  1. After the turkey, get online to check out the deals. Our data sources indicate that most major retailers will be starting sales earlier than ever this year. We expect to see more Black Friday sales start on Thanksgiving Day than ever before, and some major retailers will even leak their deals weeks before!
  2. Remember that “midnight” is different for every time zone. Historically, the best deals always go first, especially those that start at midnight. But midnight in New York is only 9:00 pm in Los Angeles. Be sure to look for a countdown timer on the retailer’s website so you can be ready the moment the sale starts.
  3. Double up on savings! Use ShopAtHome.com to maximize your savings. You can double or triple your savings by using a coupon code and earning Cash Back on your purchase.
  4. “Like” or be a “Follower.” Major retailers are promoting unbeatable deals via Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and email newsletters. Don’t miss out on these savings alerts! ShopAtHome.com will be sharing and re-tweeting the best online deals on its own FacebookTwitter and Google+ pages.
  5. Take advantage of in-store pickup.  Not only do you get free shipping when you select in-store pick-up, but the store can “store” your gifts for you so you don’t have to hide them in the back of your closet.
  6. Stick to a budget by using gift cards.  A good way to stick to a budget while shopping online is to actually use gift cards rather than just buy them for others.  You can easily find gift cards for hundreds of different places right at your local grocery store, or you even buy gift cards online and have them shipped to you or delivered via email (and earn cash back when you do!).  When you no longer have money on your gift cards, it means your holiday shopping is over.
  7. Compare product prices across retailers.  If you already know what product you want to give, use a product comparison engine that helps you find the best net price for that product, inclusive of coupons, cash back, and shipping.  ShopAtHome.com recently released a first of its kind new product comparison function that incorporates coupons, cash back and shipping from thousands of leading internet stores. Visit ShopAtHome.com and search for the top products on your Black Friday shopping list.

Whiting, IN  (Profitable.com)  Hosting a Thanksgiving meal is an honor and a joy for many, but sometimes the price tag that goes along with it can be daunting. A new CouponCabin.com survey reveals that 44 percent of those hosting Thanksgiving this year are at least somewhat overwhelmed with the cost. More women said they feel overwhelmed by the cost than men, at 51 percent and 36 percent, respectively. This survey was conducted online nationwide by Harris Interactive on behalf of CouponCabin.com from October 24-26, 2011 among 2,132 adults aged 18 and older.

Between a turkey, side dishes, beverages and dessert, a Thanksgiving host’s grocery bill can cost a cornucopia of money. Nearly one-in-five (17 percent) Thanksgiving hosts said they plan to spend $250 or more on the meal this year, while half (52 percent) will spend between $100 and $249. Others are planning a more frugal Thanksgiving, as 31 percent said they will spend under $100.

“Don’t let the burden of the cost of Thanksgiving fall squarely on your own shoulders,” said Jackie Warrick, President and Chief Savings Officer at CouponCabin.com. “Since many people will be enjoying the meal with you, consider asking guests to chip in on the cost, or better yet, contribute with a dish of their own. Combine the sharing strategy with other money-saving tactics and you’ll be well on your way to a less expensive Turkey Day.”

Thanksgiving hosts that are feeling overwhelmed with the costs are employing a variety of money-trimming plans, including the following:

  • Use coupons – 60 percent
  • Shop early to get the best deals – 48 percent
  • Buy items at a warehouse store – 37 percent
  • Ask guests to bring a dish or dishes – 34 percent
  • Wait until the last minute for deals as stores empty out their inventory – 10 percent
  • Buy pre-made items at a grocery/specialty store – 7 percent

Savings expert Warrick offers the following tips on how to dress your turkey (and all the fixings) for less this year:

Scour the Web for coupons: Do your homework ahead of your shopping trips to get the best coupons. Check out CouponCabin.com’s newly re-launched grocery section for coupons on thousands of different items, for everything from tablecloths to canned soups to gravy mixes and more.

Create a signature drink: One of the most expensive parts of a holiday meal can be the cost of alcohol. Think about creating one signature drink that will appeal to all, as opposed to buying beer, wine and specific types of hard alcohol.

Decorating deals: If you don’t have your own already, buying new tablecloths, napkins and decorations can quickly add up. Check out a local dollar store for plain tablecloths and more, and spice up your tables up on your own with leaves from your yard, fruit displays and more.

Survey Methodology:

This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of CouponCabin from October 24-26, 2011 among 2,132 adults aged 18 and older. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore, no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated. “We think mobiSHADES will help EyeBrights™ to enter the mobile market quickly and securely,” said Mobius International CEO Aram Kovach. “All Mobius applications are flexible and designed to satisfy the needs of mobile users as well as the retailer or producer because Mobius does not require anything more than a camera-enabled mobile phone. In the case of EyeBrights™, we’ve matched the service with the power of social media, which helps customers make better choices and provides EyeBrights™ with a new and powerful market reach. In addition, once a user completes their first mobiSHADES experience, EyeBrights™ will also be able to follow up with the user with special offers or other sales-building information.”

The sophisticated mobiSHADES mobile image recognition system determines the capabilities of the mobile device that has sent the image, and returns content that is best suited for that particular device. For example, a “smart phone” user will receive access to high quality, optimized video and still images, whereas a “regular” mobile phone will receive video and images at file sizes and resolutions that are in line with its capabilities.

Mobius image recognition service is free to registered members, requires no downloads, and works internationally across all mobile devices and service providers. Mobius also responds in the primary language of the country where a call originates. Users pay only the charges associated with their mobile phone service contract.

New York, NY  (Profitable.com)  Hotlist (http://www.Hotlist.com), the social planning and discovery platform, has released a slew of advanced features and sleeker interface for their website and iPhone app. The tech startup aims to simplify the way friends coordinate plans and discover what will be happening today, tomorrow, and throughout the week at millions of venues worldwide.

Hotlisters can now take “virtual peeks” into venues hours or days in advance to see Facebook profile photos of the expected crowds, details of upcoming events, male: female ratios, and which of their Facebook friends (even if they’re not Hotlist users) plan to attend.

Hotlist has also launched a new social coordination tool, named “Planner,” which allows users to quickly determine the best time and place for a get-together with invited Facebook friends. Built for ease and speed, Planner helps friends coordinate more effectively than email, phone calls, text messages, and even Facebook.

Hotlist aggregates public plans in order to show users which places will be trending nearby. Users receive even more personalized social recommendations based on the friends, places, events, and brands they follow.

Already named one of the Top 100 Websites of 2010 by PC Magazine and nominated for Best Location-Based Service at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show, Hotlist now seems poised to become the first major application to help people plan their offline social lives.

“Hotlist is the first location-based service to completely focus on simplifying people’s social lives. Our goal is to leverage the connective power of social media and smartphones to encourage real-world interaction,” said Chris Mirabile, co-Founder and CEO of Hotlist.

Available for free download in the Apple iTunes Store, Hotlist is the first app to use over 100 million people’s plans to provide social information on over 2.7 million venues in more than 40,000 cities. Hotlist makes social decisions easier by pulling public data from Facebook and Twitter and customizing it for each user based on their social preferences.

By following People, Places & Interests, you receive even more personalized social recommendations about what’s happening today, tomorrow and throughout the week. Staying in the loop has never been easier! While there are a lot of factors that go into having a stellar time, it’s usually not about where you are as much as who you’re with. On Hotlist, you can take virtual peeks into places hours or days in advance to see which friends plan to be there (even if they’re not on Hotlist), event details, girl/guy ratios, and Facebook profile photos of the expected crowd!

Salt Lake City, UT  (Profitable.com)   Thursday, November 3, marked the first in a series of free Common Core themed webinars hosted by PD developer School Improvement Network. The webinar, presented by education expert Curtis Linton, discusses the overwhelming need for consistent standards in the American education system, and provides an in-depth explanation of how the Common Core works, breaking the program down into simple, easy-to-understand steps.

“This webinar, first and foremost, is a great motivational tool for teachers who are understandably skeptical about Common Core,” says Linton. “It lays out the nuts and bolts of the Standards, and in doing so, helps educators to see their enormous potential. It addresses the fist big challenge that the Common Core will face as it goes live: how to help educators catch the vision of the program.”

“My presentation,” Linton continues, “helps administrators and teachers to see the Standards for what they are: a well-designed, highly efficient tool to help individual students fulfill their full potential, and to become college and career ready. The national and institutional aspects of Common Core—making sure all students are receiving the same education—are important, but are secondary benefits. At its core, this is a practical program that will help teachers immensely, on an everyday basis.”

“Our intent with this, and the rest of our Common Core webinars,” says Linton, “is to provide educators with sophisticated professional training pieces. They are more than just events that we put on once a week—they are designed to be downloaded and presented at faculty meetings and in PLCs. We want every teacher in America to have free access to this information.”

Linton’s presentation, with audio and visual components, can be downloaded for free online at http://www.commoncore360.com, along with the entire Common Core Webinar series which is all free and open to the public.

Be sure to register for School Improvement’s November 10 webinar, “Translating ELA Standards,” presented by Dr. Ann Johnson, and stay tuned for upcoming Common Core webinars as they are posted on http://www.commoncore360.com.

Los Angeles, CA  (Profitable.com)  More consumers are looking for a good value during this holiday season according to a new infographic analysis from CreditDonkey, a credit card comparison website.

Infographic: http://www.creditdonkey.com/holiday-shopping-trends.html

The infographic cites price being the most important factor to 63% of holiday shoppers, according to a study by Harris Interactive. With over $30 billion in sales through electronic shopping and mail order houses according to the US Census Bureau, consumers are flocking to online deals.

“Free shipping deals, convenience and more variety are just a few reasons why more consumers are opting to shop with their mouse this year,” says Charles Tran, founder of CreditDonkey. “Not to mention, there is no need to worry about traffic or the cost of gas and dining out when you shop online.”

Online holiday shopping increased 15.2% in 2010 compared to 2009, according to a recent study by the National Retail Federation. In addition, special days such as Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Super Saturday attracted substantial crowds and significant discounts.

Visit http://www.creditdonkey.com/holiday-shopping-trends.html to view the full infographic on holiday shopping trends, including: Black Friday statistics, where consumers will shop this year, what shoppers are spending their money on, and how they are spending their time.

The folks at CreditDonkey also recommend these tips to help save money during the holidays in these tough economic times:

  • Focus your spending on immediate family members and less on coworkers and acquaintances.
  • Credit cards usually offer more security and protection than debit cards. Use a no fraud liability credit card to get peace of mind and protect yourself from unauthorized charges.
  • Make sure gift cards are legitimate. Scammers often email faux free gift card offers during the holidays. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Safeguard your account information. Do not give out personal information to fraudulent sources. During the holidays, callers and emailers often pose as banks, retailers, credit card companies, and even charities to scam unsuspecting consumers.
  • View your credit card statements regularly to make sure there are no fraudulent purchases.

Consumers can visit CreditDonkey to compare credit card deals before their next holiday shopping spree. Rewards may vary significantly between credit cards, so it is always best to compare at CreditDonkey to get the best rewards.
