Today’s Internet may be packed with GIFs and super short tweets, but there’s still plenty of reasons to write well when communicating. Most entrepreneurs think that writing is something you’re naturally good or bad at, but anyone can craft well-worded emails and blog posts with some attention and care. Quality writing matters more now than ever before. If you’re uncomfortable with the idea of putting your ideas down in writing, learn some basic rules that apply specifically to you as a hard-working business builder.

Remember to develop your own personal voice for writing. It’s tempting to simply copy the style of someone you admire, but readers will only keep coming back to read more when you share your unique personality. Drop the buzzwords too—even if your industry is packed with jargon, you’ll earn a lot more respect by cutting to the chase. Packing in words with no real value mean that only a limited audience can appreciate what you’re saying. It’s tempting to make up your own cutesy buzzwords of your own too, but this is not a good idea either. Make your work as active as possible too. Use strong verbs and drop the extra adverbs and adjectives to tighten up your message.
